Structural funds of the European Union

The aim of the European Union's regional policy, also called cohesion policy, is to harmonise the development of the member states and increase the competitiveness of the European Union throughout the world. For this purpose, structural funds, i.e. Euromoney, are used through three funds: European Regional Development Fund, European Social Fund, and Cohesion Fund.

In 2014, a new seven-year budget period began in the EU. During this time, a total of 3.5 billion euros will be directed to Estonia from EU structural funds, of which the area of governance of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications will implement 1.3 billion euros.
