The Ministry of Economy and Communications has a coordinating role in the implementation of the strategy in the Policy Areas ‘Innovation’, ‘Transport’, and ‘Energy’. The objectives of the Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region are to save the Baltic Sea, connect the region, and increase prosperity. Participating in the implementation of the Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region allows to become part of a good cooperation network with other countries, exchange information and practices, and promote the uniform development of the region.
The main focus areas of the Policy Area ‘Innovation’ are:
- Sustainable development, including supporting the blue and green economy, sustainable value chains, development of the circular economy and business environment
- Digital innovation, including support of digital business models and infrastructure, development of real-time economy, support for the introduction of data-driven solutions
- Supporting the co-creation of innovation, including various networks and communities in innovation activities, directing the necessary information to policy makers
The Baltic Institute of Finland leads cooperation in this field as the main coordinator, with involvement from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications of Estonia and the Ministry of Education and Science of Poland.
The main focus areas of the Policy Area ‘Transport’ are:
- Connecting the region, including supporting the introduction of high-tech solutions in the field of logistics in all modes of transport, supporting the free movement of goods and people
- Increasing prosperity through better supply chains
International cooperation in the field of transport is managed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications of Estonia, with involvement from the Transport Innovation Agency of Lithuania.
The main focus area of the Policy Area ‘Energy’ is to support a competitive, sustainable and reliable energy economy in the region.
International cooperation in the field of energy is managed by the Ministry of Energy of Lithuania, with involvement from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications of Estonia.
