Palo: We will be chairing the EU's foreign trade talks during the Estonian Presidency of the Council of the EU

Urve Palo, Minister of Entrepreneurship and Information Technology, empasized today at the meeting of the European Parliament's Committee on International Trade that the Estonian Presidency aims to support the international role of the European Union as a spokesperson for active free-trade.

Estonia wishes to pay particular attention to the fact that trade policy will contribute to the economic growth of the European Union and will provide more opportunities for entrepreneurs, while at the same time being based on our values and common standards.

"Only through co-operation and by keeping unity on the global stage, can the European Union guarantee the security of its citizens, create wealth and stability," said Minister Palo.

Under the Estonian Presidency, together with the International Trade Commission, the modernisation of trade defence instruments and the new anti-dumping calculating methodology will be discussed.

We are ready to work hard to bring the EU trade agenda forward and to shape our common future. Trade between the Member States and with other countries has been a success story for the European Union. Our common task is to work to restore the trust of citizens in trade, "said Palo.

Urve Palo, Minister of Entrepreneurship and Information Technology, is introducing the most important topics for the presidency of the Council of the EU today and tomorrow in parliamentary committees in Brussels. In addition to the Committee on International Trade, the Minister will attend the meetings of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection, and will meet with Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström and Digital Economy and Society Commissioner Mariya Gabriel.
