Minister of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure Kadri Simson met with Swiss President Ms Doris Leuthard

Today, on April 10th, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications hosted a welcome visit by the Swiss President Ms Doris Leuthard, who met with the Minister of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure Kadri Simson to discuss economic relations between Estonia and Switzerland.

The main discussions of the meeting were on the topics of the European Union's digital innovation and energy and transport issues. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications presented its priorities for the EU presidency to the Swiss delegation and the content of the events taking place during it. Switzerland is actively cooperating with the European Union member states and has proved to be a good collaboration partner for Estonia as well.

"Today's meeting was a success, Switzerland and us have a shared view that the European energy policy should be directed with future prospects and energy efficiency in mind. We need to spend less energy on heating and instead redirect resources for sustainable renovation, "said Kadri Simson.

"We have already collaborated with the Swiss in the field of energy efficiency. The energy efficiency project between Estonia and Switzerland was a success and within this framework, Estonia gained six energy-efficient public buildings," the Minister added.

The Swiss president recognized Estonia as a digitally developed country, and noted that in Switzerland, Estonia is considered a pioneer in digital innovation. Rail Baltic was additionally discussed, which the Swiss considered a very good initiative and felt that this would give a major boost to Estonia's trade with other countries.
